building is the manifestation of 10 years of hard between the city and adjacent Macedonia AME Church.
“Ten years, this is a dream fulfilled,” Bishop Gregory Ingram said. “We’ve gone from vision to innovative impact.”

Macedonia AME Church has been a key supporter for the inclusion of affordable housing the massive Muni Lot 1 development on Union Street, the rest of which is currently under construction.

“The mission of Macedonia AME Church is to minister to the social, spiritual and physical development of all people,” Senior Pastor Reverend Richard O. McEachern said. “We are grateful to God for the opportunity to provide much needed affordable housing to this community.”

Macedonia Plaza offers rentals between $500-$1,200 a month. Apartments are available for single-tenants incomes between $19,063 and $24,080 or between $24,515 to $30,960 for households of three people.

For the 143 units, approximately 30,000 applications were received, indicative of a greater need for affordable housing. State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky pointed out that the city now needs to find affordable housing for the 29,857.

Aymee Armenteros was one of those 30,000 applicants, but also one of the lucky ones that got an apartment. A resident since December, she talked about how happy she was to have gotten into Macedonia Plaza.
