Sixty-five years ago today…

…the United Nations General Assembly came together for the first time in Flushing, Queens at what is now the Queens Museum.

At the first meeting, then-U.S. President Harry S. Truman delivered the opening address.

The Assembly utilized the space from 1946 to 1950, when construction was completed on the organization’s permanent Manhattan home.
